Tropical Beach In Nicaragua

Before dawn the first surfers race toward the ocean and the sun begins to unroll a carpet of yellow light across the beach. Neighbors on foot or on horseback stop to chat in the surf in front of the new luxury clubhouse which is buzzing with the breakfast crowd. Soon families will gather by the beachfront pool while mom or dad, laptop flipped open, checks in on business back home. The more physically active sip a freshly-squeezed juice after their morning run along the beach and through the nature trails. Next stop: The tennis court.

The “Next Costa Rica”…in Asia

Little islands fringed with white sand dot the horizon. In the distance, the beach gives way to a rocky outcrop topped with thick green jungle. Glass-flat turquoise water washes powder-white sand. This might just be the nicest beach I have seen.

And, I’m only sharing it with four others today. Well, I think I am. They’re so far down the beach they look like black dots on the sand.

Europe on Sale? Baloney!

The economies of the PIIGS (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Spain) are in disarray. Europe is in the throes of a banking crisis brought on by (among other things) exposure to Greek sovereign debt. Many of you have been asking if now is the time to jump in. Some of you read this piece in The Wall Street Journal and got excited.

Uruguay, Rhymes with “You’re a Buy”

Lately, the credit rating agencies haven’t been doing much for International Living’s home country of Ireland, other than downgrading it. Moody’s cut Ireland’s credit rating to junk in recent weeks. But some countries are faring much better.

In July, Standard & Poor’s bumped Uruguay’s credit rating up to “investment grade.” Moody’s and Fitch, the other major ratings agencies, boosted Uruguay’s rating as well, although not quite to investment grade.
