Today's report begins with an abominable horror: The world's most valuable commodity has soared to its highest price in a generation.

Stocks are in the dumps today. As we write, the major US indexes have all but erased the hard-fought/delusional gains of the previous two sessions. The Dow, S&P 500 and the NASDAQ are all nursing losses of around 2%.
The panicky mood on Wall Street comes thanks to a “trifecta of bad reports,? as one news site put it.

Last week, Caterpillar, the world’s biggest maker of earthmoving equipment, said it was boosting its production in Brazil and China. It’s building a new facility in Brazil to build things like backhoes. And it is quadrupling its output in China over the next four years. It also plans to base an executive in Asia for the first time.
